Sindhupalchok is a district of Bagamati zone, 85km far from Kathmandu which is one of our rural program locations. Sindhupalchok district has the main Tibet entry point by overland; this is a major commercial point between Tibet and Nepal. More over this district has beautiful river and mountain. (Thokarpa School)
Currently we have been placing volunteers in Thokarpa village, in Bag Bhairav higher secondary school, run by community efforts and Nepal government. Bag Bhairav School has 600 students in secondary level and approximately 100 in higher secondary level. Most of the kids attend this school nearby and further village about 2 hours walk, most of them are poor and deprived groups of kids
There is a newly established private English school which founded by community effort with coordination of local literate people with the objectives of developing English education at early childhood of rural kids. This private school was started last year and running grade one and two and from next session it will be annually upgraded simultaneously.
As a volunteer as per your interest you will be stationed either in Public or Public school or both. You will be teaching English daily 4 to 6 period each period goes for 45 minutes for 6 days a week.
(Thokarpa Health Post)
There is a health clinics run by District Health Division of Sindhupalchok that is a department of Nepal Government. This health post provides out patients service, normal injury surgery, DOT and safe motherhood consultation. This health post has 4 staff including health assistant, midwives, and office assistant. Unfortunately this health clinics running in a quite poor condition without any power supply, not well ventilated out patient Department etc.
We are aiming to improve its then situation by mobilizing volunteer there. We have donated some medical supplies and previous volunteer provided some consultation to keep clean clinic premises and other habits in checking patients. As a volunteer you will be assisting local staff in their daily works like checking patients, keeping clinics tidy, managing waste etc.
Host Family
Our host family home is located 5 minutes walk from school and 10 minutes from health post. The host father name is Mr. Ram Sharan Acharya, 29. Mr Acharya has intermediate level qualification with moderate English and involved in Nepal army for couple of years. Ram Sharan has his own farm grows various crops and vegetable which are organic. Mr Acharya has two muds house one for his own use and another one for paying guest.
